How To Use 'The Seed' Dream Pad

There are many shortcuts built into the program, the descriptions below indicate the standard way of accessing a function. Most functions work in a similar way to other 'Windows' programs. Keyboard commands are listed next to the 'item' in the 'menu' bar.

Dream Diary:

The 'Dream Diary' has been designed to allow you to record your dreams or impressions on a regular basis. The right side page is dedicated to your text entry and the left side page is reserved for the Dictionary display. Simply type in your dream and click on the save button or advance to the next page.

You can record approx 4000+ words for each page (32000 characters) There is no fixed limit to the number of pages in each diary. Saving is automatic when going to the 'Next Page' > or 'Previous Page' < See keyboard and menu commands. You can add or change the Date & Time to any page by selecting 'Page Time' from the 'Timer' menu.

The Diary supports the use of 'Key Links' to other pages and diaries (See Key Linking). Link one dream to another, or to a page in another diary. Add 'Media Keys' for 'Voice Notes' and Multimedia elements of video, sound or images.

Dream Dictionary:

To Step through your dream text word by word, use the 'Dream Dict' button or choose 'Step Dictionary' from the menu bar.

To highlight a single word or phrase, use the mouse to select the text, then press your 'Right' mouse button. Choose 'OK' to search the page with your word of phrase. (Note - please limit your phrases to approx 50 words at a time, an error will occur if you make it work too hard at one time!)

To Search for any single word, press the 'Word' button . This is a common function to all diaries, however in the Symbols Diary it returns the appropriate meaning associated with the 'Keyword'.

User's Dream Dictionary:

To Step through your dream using your own dictionary, select the 'User' button or choose 'Symbols Dictionary' button from the side bar. This works in the same way as the 'Step' dictionary but will use your own words and meanings.

To add a word and meaning to your own dictionary, select 'Add' or 'Add to Dictionary' from the 'File' menu. This invokes the 'User Dictionary' window.

Enter a word or phrase to the top line, then enter your text in the bottom area. Click 'Add Symbol' to install it in your dictionary. The program will only accept one paragraph for the meaning. This means that you must not press the 'Enter' (carriage return) until you have written in the text. Extra text after a carriage return will be ignored.

The amount of words you can enter is limited to a total of 28,000 characters. So be careful not to add too much text in each meaning as this will affect the total amount of words you can add.

To 'Find' a word and its meaning. Type the word into the top field and press the 'Find' button.

Full screen Half screen:

Enlarges the page by going to a full screen view. Most editing function are available in this mode but some are not. You need to 'Return' to your normal view to be able to save your editing or writing.

Key Tray:

Clicking the 'Key Tray' icon button on the blue menu bar or choosing 'Key Tray' for the 'File' menu opens the 'Key Tray'. Acts as a toggle on/off. Choose one of the keys (See Below)

Key Linking:

One of the most powerful features of the 'Seed' is its ability to link one page to another. This feature allows you to create a 'Seeded' path through your dream journal. By following these links you can Browse through your thoughts, dreams, insights and ideas as you build your seed diary into a comprehensive journal of your self.

Most people are amazed at the things they discover! A dream that you they've had that links to an event in life. A thought that leads to a series of creative ideas. A way to create a map of your brain and to browse along any path to another! By adding media clips you can build ideas for the scene for a film, a book or song. You can place up to 8 keys on each page!

How to Use Key Linking:

Open the 'Key Tray' by selecting the 'Key Tray Icon' button at the bottom of the diary screen. Choose a 'Diary Key' - 'Media Key' - 'Remove Key' . Click and hold with the left mouse button down, drag the key off the tray and onto the bare strip at the bottom of the dream meaning window, below the text.

A 'Key' will ask you to enter a page number for the key to link to. Selecting this key on this page will now take you directly to that diary page.

A 'Media Key' will ask you to choose which type of media 'Video - Audio -Image' Select the type you want. A File Dialogue appears to allow you to source your media clip. Select the file, click 'OK'. When you press the key your visual media will appear in the 'Media Window' and begin to play, your audio file will play automatically. The keys act as toggles to turn the media on/off. The 'Seed' will support most image and video formats depending on your Windows Driver setup. However jpeg images are not supported in this version. AVI, Quicktime and Mpeg video files are supported as long as there is a driver for them installed on your system. Hint, try to load the media file, if it doesn't work then it is probably not supported on your PC.

A 'Remove Key' removes the key that you drop it on... deletes that key

Voice Notes (Dictaphone):

Use the 'Media Key' to add your Voice Notes to the page. Imagine up to 8 Dictaphone recordings per page! Use this feature to record your ideas or dreams quickly so you can come back later to type them in. Select the 'Voice' button or 'Record Voice' from the 'Sound' menu to record your voice, save it, then load it in on one of the media keys. (See Record below).

'Record Voice' from the 'Sound' menu invokes the 'Sound Recorder'. The default is to start the standard windows recorder. This can be changed in the 'Settings' menu to a program of your choice. Requires a Sound card & Microphone (not included) for use. Allows you to record your voice or other audio. When finished choose 'Save As' and save the file in a directory you can remember. For best access save in C:\Seed\Sound, it can be any 'name' you choose. This file can be Dropped as a media 'Key' onto the bottom of any 'Diary' page.

Voice Control:

The 'Seed' has been designed to be compatible with most external Voice Control software. If you have one of these packages installed on your PC you can use and navigate through the seed simply by talking to it! If your package supports it, you can even dictate directly into the page! Make sure the text field is selected and your package allows you to change its preferences.

To speak to the 'Seed' simply say the words from the menu items contained in the menus. i.e. Say "Next Page" to move to the next page of your diary. (requires sound card, microphone and external voice control software) We make no guarantee as to the effectiveness of this function as it depends on your hardware and software setup. ( Note - Drag & Drop mouse operations will not function effectively) However, we have had no major problems with the leading two brands of software. Try it its a lot of fun!

Sound:

The 'Record Voice' item from the 'Sound' menu invokes the 'Sound Recorder'. This file can be attached to your background 'Music' icon or Dropped as a yellow media 'Key' onto any 'Diary' page

'Music On' & 'Stop Music' do as they suggest to turn the background music on/off.

Background Music:

The default background sound for your diary can be changed to suit your needs. Click with your 'Right' mouse button on the 'Music' icon to invoke the file dialogue. Use this to find your Audio file. Select it and then click 'OK' this will install the file as the background music. We have included a few sample Midi '.mid' files inside the C:\Seed\Sound directory. (See 'Sound' Below)

Most types of audio file can be played from the Seed player. Midi '.mid' and Wave '.wav ' are the most common. If your copy of Windows has a 'driver' for any other they should play from our player as we use standard MCI Device controls

Timer Functions:

The 'Set Timer' menu item allows you to type in a time to trigger an audio file or media clip. This functions the same way as most alarms. Use 00:00 24 hour format where 11 pm would be 23:00. The 'Seed' program can be 'minimized' to the bottom of your windows desktop. When the timer is triggered the Seed will pop up to full screen, invoke a seed reading and the play any audio selected in the 'Music' icon. Can be used to wake you or remind you to record your dreams and thoughts.

Timer On & Timer Off menu items do as they suggest. Please use 'Set Timer' before turning on the alarm.

Lock Diaries:

To turn 'ON' the password lock select 'Lock Diaries' from 'File' menu. This will return you to the opening screen. The only way to turn the password lock 'OFF' again is to re enter the password click on the key and choose an entry portal on the main icon. Type in the correct password, the diaries unlock... If you forget your password, select 'Change Password' you will need to enter your 'Seed Code' and User Name details.

Change Password:

Changes your personal password, from 'File' menu. Select 'Change Password'. Type in your 'Seed Code' and new password.

Music Icon

The Musical Note Icon is on the right side of the top menu bar. When you move your mouse over this icon it switches off any background sound that is playing. Click the icon with your 'Left' mouse button, acts as a toggle to turn the sound on/off.

Click with your 'Right' mouse button on the 'Music' icon to invoke the file dialogue. Use this to find your Audio file. Select it and then click 'OK' this will install the file as the background music. We have included a few sample Midi '.mid' files inside the C:\Seed\Sound directory.
